An episodic series of performances in collaboration with Micha Cárdenas, using DIY wearable electronics, soft sensors and live audio to bridge virtual and physical spaces. The performances explore possible queer futures of latex sexuality amidst a speculative world of virus hysteria, focusing on the questions of virus politics, trans-species erotics and becoming avatar in a science fiction non-linear narrative.

A performance in collaboration with Micha Cárdenas, where the performers commit playful erotic acts, while wearing biometric sensors including heart rate monitors and temperature sensors. The sensor data is processed through an Arduino/Freeduino and Puredata to produce live audio. This audio is sent back into Second Life, linking our physical bodies to our virtual avatars. A performance in collaboration with Micha Cárdenas, where we commit playful erotic acts, while wearing biometric sensors including heart rate monitors, temperature sensors and galvanic skin response sensors. The sensor data is processed through an Arduino/Freeduino and Puredata to produce live audio, which translates the movement of our bodies in relation to each other. This audio is sent back into Second Life, which also creates a visual change corresponding to the sensor data, linking our physical bodies to our virtual avatars. This performance is a part of the series of studies for mixed relations, a larger set of performances using technology to explore relations between people as well as between people and technology.

slapshock. <2009> performance/video
A performance in collaboration with Micha Cárdenas, that is an exploration of symbiotic relationality through pain. Each performer slaps them self in turn, causing the other performer to receive a painful electric shock, creating a pain sharing device. The devices were created using a Freeduino, an Arduino, piezo sensors and Transdermal Electro Nerve Stimulation (TENS) units. Mehrmand and Cárdenas soldered the components together and programmed the micro-controllers to detect a slap through the piezo sensor and activate the TENS units when the slap occurs. This performance is a part of the series of studies for mixed relations, a larger set of performances using technology to explore relations between people as well as between people and technology. http://vimeo.com/5532433

A live durational performance where I masturbated for one hour, with a Nintendo Wii remote controller. The accelerometer sensor in the Wii-mote measured the speed and intensity of my hand movement, which sent messages to MaxMSP altering the sound of my voice, which was then projected through speakers outside of the room. Behind a locked door, I invited viewers to look through the peephole, seeing only the lower end of my breasts, down to the top of my pubic line, revealing the in-between. http://visarts.ucsd.edu/something-happening/?p=177

loveyouiloveyou. <2009> performance/video
An interactive video installation where I invited viewers to lie on my bed which was in my “art” studio. There was a webcam and a light above the bed, which would detect the presence of someone and would trigger a video of me lying on a bed next to them, screaming “i love you” over and over again. This is a study piece for mixed relations, experimenting with this notion of mixed reality with full scaled projections, performance, and interaction.
